In May 2019, after all the hubbub of Jazz Fest had died down, Gwen Thompkins was in touch with Spencer about interviewing him for her fabulous radio show, Music Inside Out, which is broadcast on our NPR station WWNO here in New Orleans. I have been listening to this program for a couple of years now and have totally loved hearing Deacon John talking about growing up with music all around him, Aurora Nealand describing her non-traditional childhood, and Irma Thomas’ movement through the world of music. It’s a wonderful way to spend an hour with conversation, music, and Gwen’s infectious laugh.
